Project Engineer

Jami Havens, PE

During Jami's high school years, he enjoyed exploring building design. Whenever class got a little dull, he would doodle building layouts in his notebook. Graduation came and went, and Jami found himself working alongside a local contractor, gaining hands-on experience in the construction field. The way the pieces of a structure fit together like a puzzle fascinated Jami and his aspirations shifted from architecture to engineering. He wanted to understand the mechanics behind it all.

Jami started studying at Utah State University in 2012, where he pursued a degree in civil engineering, specializing in the field of structural engineering. After six years of study, Jami received a master's degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural design.  Since starting at ARW Engineers in 2016, Jami has been able to work on many different projects using a variety of building materials.  While he is comfortable working almost any project, the majority of his work has focused on the seismic upgrade and renovation of existing brick structures. He gets a lot of satisfaction from working on these projects, but what Jami enjoys most about his work is the people he is able to associate with both in and out of the office.

When he's not busy with engineering, Jami spends most of his time with his wife and four children. They keep him busy with school, sports, playing games, going camping and fishing, and movie nights. Jami also spends one or two nights a week volunteering for his church.  If he gets a few spare minutes on a Saturday, Jami will slip out to the garage to dabble in woodworking.
