High-Altitude Recreation
At approximately 54,000 sf, the new Park City Municipal Athletic & Recreation Center addition was built on the same site as the existing facility that was partially demolished. The new facility contains four indoor tennis courts, an elevated running track, fitness studio, cardio/weight room, soft arts studio, party room, game room, administrative areas, a new lobby, and a new entryway. The new facility ties into the original gymnasium and pool and provides a substantial improvement to the outdated original facility. The design snow load on the structure is 100 psf, which created a challenge when determining loads and stresses on the structure due to potential unbalanced snow loads and snow drifts around the many steps and jogs in the roof structure. This facility was designed as an essential facility for emergency purposes and refuge for the city during natural disasters. This required the structure to be designed for elevated, seismic, wind and snow loads to increase the structures resilience and ability to be used immediately following a natural disaster.
