Harmon's Emigration Market consisted of a seismic retrofit and addition to a previously existing Emigration Market. Harmon's bought the store from the original owner and added a seating area as well as additional back of house areas to help service the new store. The intent of the upgrade and addition was to preserve the feel and look of the original building as much as possible. The original building consisted of URM exterior walls with a roof structure of glulam wood beams and tongue and groove decking. New concrete shear walls were located strategically around the perimeter of the existing building to provide lateral resistance to the building. The roof was overplayed with OSB sheathing in order to improve the performance of the diaphragm and transfer of inertial forces into the new concrete shear walls.
